on the lighter side...

Now that April is here, I'm missing one of my favorite childhood things...the start of Little League Baseball...We always kicked it off with a pancake breakfast, I'd watch my little bros play and of course eat nachos. What do you miss about childhood?

I miss:

Little League

Lick-a-made candy

California summers

Boogie boarding or "catching curl"

and of course the non-bill paying, carefree, worry free life of being a kid...

I miss how long each summer day was. You could fit a lifetime of adventures into one hot day!

I miss staying out until supper, then eating as fast as you could so you could go back out and play until dark.

I miss imagination and playing in the dirt. A pile of sticks and some grass could be a well fortified bunker for GI Joe and the gang.

But I especially miss the "ding-ding man" and the $1.50 bom-pops.

I miss the icecream guy on his bicycle and all the neighbours hanging out in the street having bar-be-ques together. I miss walking to the candy store with my dad and buying a whole bag full for just 50 cents. I miss the feeling of never ending summer days and swimming until I was a prune. Like Noelle, I too, miss a carefree existence and hope I am creating for my kids some great childhoood memories they will cherish.

To miss: To feel the lack or loss of

Guys - There is no reason to lack or feel the loss of any of these things. I know its the nostalgia of it all. But I would suggest the following to bring it all back:

Noelle - Buy some lick-a-maid and share the experience with your kids.
Betsy-Pick a hot day and fill it with adventure.
Matt-Play in the dirt with your boys all day, eat dinner real fast, and then go back out. It may seem crazy but your boys will remember the day always!!!
Rachel-Find a pool and swimuntil you are prune. Then get out and go for some ice cream with kids.

My theory is to never grow out of being a kid. I always make time to play in the dirt......

The other day---I bought some regular Juicy Fruit gum just because I could smell it and it reminded me of my Grandad when I was kid. I enjoyed a few moments of him all over again. It was awesome....

I miss not having bills to pay. Shannon, do you have a suggestion for me that won't cause me to go bankrupt?:)

Oh the bike with the banana seat, I had one too. Shannon, thanks for the reminder. I'm going swimming tomorrow with the kids and then for icecream. It's gonna be soooo good.

I miss lemonade stands, playing hide and seek in the alley with all the neighbor hood kids. and with my kids, I miss lazy days at the park with Pati and her kids, swimming in granny B's pool. Library days. Making my kids write stories about being a taco at taco bell. Reading them the "Hiding Place" and seeing how it affected them. Simple problems, like spilled milk, Bubba hit me, mom or your not allowed to have a boyfriend in 6th grade. Grandy
