Look out Oprah!
Ok, so we're not exactly at the "Media-Mogul" status just yet...but our Women's Ministry at The Life started a Book Club at the beginning of the summer and I am SO excited about where we're headed. The first book was a good starting point, but our second book Boundaries, by Dr. Henry Cloud and John Townsend has really taken us to another level.
It is so refreshing to just sit and communicate with a group of women who are courageous enough to let their guard down, and share candidly about their personal struggles, and watch as they reach out to encourage one another and truly grow together.
We are in the process of selecting our next book, and I think the general consensus is to step out into a different genre for our next read. One book I thought of is the Hiding Place , by Corrie Ten Boom. I loved it when I was young, and I believe it to be not only an intriguing story but a great point of reference for many topics of discussion, such as: the strength of the female spirit, fear, trust, and grace.
I love the analogy her father uses on the subject of grace:
"Corrie Ten Boom - that wonderful saint who was so involved in helping to rescue Jews during World War II - she would go through tremendous suffering so would her family and when she was little she had a hard time going to sleep and her Daddy said, "What's the problem?" And she said, "Daddy, I wonder what happens if I ever had to suffer for Jesus." Well, as it turned out she did have to. He said, "Honey don't worry about it. You know it's like when the train is going to take us from Harlem to Amsterdam, when do I give you your ticket? Not a week in advance." She said, "No Daddy, you give it to me right when the train comes." He said, "That's right honey, your ticket is always there right when the train comes." Well, that's what God will do for you with His grace. Your ticket will always be there."
Any thoughts on this selection, have you read it?
